Few sports, if any, can boast the same following and worldwide fan base that football has. While entire countries support their football teams, nowhere is it more evident then with Spanish football.
The results of a recent research study done in 17 European countries showed that seven out of ten Spanish football fans preferred watching games rather then making love, confirming the fear that people in Spain are obsessed with football. The survey also showed that Spanish football fans are very superstitious with 69% admitting they had performed some sort of ritual before games in the hope of helping their team and favourite players.
While fans from other countries are loyal and supportive of their teams, few are as passionate as the Spanish football fans. Real Madrid, the most successful team in Spain, was founded in 1902, and certainly has become one of the world’s most prestigious clubs. Real Madrid has an extensive and strong fan base making Real Madrid tickets often hard to acquire. Not only can large numbers of spectators be seen at the games wearing Real Madrid shirts sporting the numbers and names of their favourite players, but also those same type shirts can be spotted being worn by fans in their everyday life. FC Barcelona was founded in 1899 and is another successful soccer team that is world-renowned. Barcelona also has a wide fan base, boasting at least 25% of the population being supporters. FC Barcelona fans are referred to as culers and, as of 2007, the club had over 156,366 fan-based clubs worldwide. With such a huge following you can imagine how hard obtaining Barcelona football tickets can be. With Spanish football being so popular and so supported by the team fans, it is often very difficult to find tickets to the games.
